A few details about us and how MT Services has progressed over the years.

We Actively Support The Guide Dogs Charity.

In 1995, Steve and Lesley Phillips decided that they wanted to start their own business. Steve was working for the Ministry of Transport and Lesley was working at Sainsbury's. They had two children and knew that starting a business from scratch would be hard work but decided to give it a go. Steve continued working for the Ministry, while he helped Lesley to get the business underway. After two years, Steve left his job and became a partner.

They wanted to be different from all other garages, as some had a bad reputation. That's why they teamed up with Unipart, to provide an honest and reliable service to all their customers.

In 1996, they were doing between 1 and 24 MOT tests a week, which over time increased to between 40 and 50. This was due to the good reputation they had built up and the increase in experience their mechanics had acquired, through working for them.

When they first started Lesley was in the office and there was just one mechanic working in the workshop with the help from Steve, when he had time off from the Ministry. After just two years Steve started working full time, with one other mechanic.

As business increased the extra workload meant more paperwork and a busier reception. This made Lesley decide that she needed help with the office work. Sandra was taken on to manage Reception. They then employed Jim who has become a great asset to them, as he is highly skilled and is always very keen to explain things to customers.

Steve decided that there was need for another person in the busy workshop so he took on Tony, a fully qualified mechanic with 36 years experience in all aspects of vehicle mechanics. This gave Steve the chance to take on other work, sometimes for customers who hadn't booked an appointment.

As the business was rapidly growing there was a need for another mechanic, so Nigel joined them. A week later, Steve and Lesley’s son Adam also joined as an apprentice.

During 2006 the business started to out grow it's premises. So in 2007 they moved to their present, much larger and very well equipped premises, with an ultra modern MOT test facility. Mark was taken on as their new apprentice. He became a quick learner and promised to turn out to be an excellent mechanic.

Over recent years various changes to the team have taken place. Jim is now Workshop Foreman. Adam has finished his apprenticeship and is now a fully qualified MOT Tester. Kayleigh has joined as Workshop Receptionist and Bob, who is an excellent mechanic, is the latest addition to the workshop team.

The team they have now work very well together and to the highest standard. If there is a problem the mechanics always work together to rectify it, as quickly as possible.
