In 1995, Steve and Lesley Phillips
decided that they wanted to own a business. Steve was working for the
Ministry of Transport and Lesley was working at Sainsburys. They had two
children and knew that starting a business from scratch would be hard work
but decided to give it a go. Steve stayed working for the ministry while he
helped Lesley to get the business underway. After two years, Steve left his
job and became a partner.
They wanted to be different from all
other garages as some have a bad reputation. That's why we teamed up with
Unipart, to provide an honest and reliable service to all our
customers.
In 1996, we were doing between 1 and 24
MOTs a week. Now we are doing between 40 and 50. This is due to the good
reputation that we have and the increase in experience our mechanics have
acquired through working for us.
When we first opened, Lesley was in the
office and there was just one mechanic working in the workshop with the help
of Steve, when he had time off from the ministry. After two years, Steve was
working full time with one other mechanic.
Because of the extra work that was being
done, there was more paperwork and the reception got much busier. This made
Lesley decide that she needed to take on someone to do the office work. The
Reception is now managed by Sandra.
Four years ago we employed Jim. He has
become a great asset to us as he is highly skilled and is always very keen
to explain things to customers.
Steve decided that there was need for
another person in the busy workshop so he took on Tony, a fully qualified
mechanic with 36 years experience in all aspects of vehicle mechanics. This
gave Steve the chance to take on other work, sometimes even when the
customers don't book in.
As the business was rapidly growing,
there was still need for another mechanic so Nigel joined us and a week
later, Steve and Lesley’s son, Adam joined as an apprentice. The team that
we have now work very well together and to the highest standard. If there is
a problem the mechanics will always work together to rectify it, as quickly
as possible.
We have just employed Mark as our new
apprentice. He is learning very quickly and promises to turn out to be an
excellent mechanic. |
